What is Limosilactobacillus reuteri?
Limosilactobacillus reuteri is a lactic acid bacterium naturally present in the digestive tracts of many mammals including humans, and also isolated from breast milk, skin and the urogenital tract. A distinguishing trait is its ability to produce reuterin, a broad-spectrum antimicrobial compound, from glycerol.
It is one of the most studied species in the mother-and-infant health literature, with numerous published clinical trials on colic, digestive comfort and the oral microbiota. It holds EFSA QPS status.
Applications
Infant drop products and mother-and-baby supplements are its main field. It is also positioned in oral health (lozenges, gums) and women's health formulations. On the feed side it is a candidate for poultry and calf applications.
Technical properties and stability
Supplied lyophilised; industry experience with oil-based drop suspensions is extensive. Room-temperature stability can be achieved in anhydrous oil matrices; for powder formats cool, dry storage is recommended. Batches ship with a CoA.
Formulation notes
Sunflower/MCT-oil based drops, lozenges and chewable tablets are the best-suited formats. Avoid high water-activity matrices. In oral-health products, slow-dissolving formats increase residence time; our team supports dosing and strain combinations.
