What is Enterococcus faecium?

Enterococcus faecium is a facultatively anaerobic lactic acid bacterium naturally present in the human and animal gut, with a long history in fermented foods including the traditional cheeses of Southern Europe. Selected probiotic strains such as SF68 carry decades of safe use and clinical study.

Strain selection is critical for this species: probiotic use relies on strains shown — and confirmed by whole-genome analysis — to be free of virulence factors and transferable antibiotic resistance. The strain in our catalogue has passed these safety screens.

Applications

Veterinary and feed additive applications are its strongest field: it is widely used in poultry, calf and pet products, and the strains authorised as feed additives in the EU belong to this species. On the human side it is positioned in digestive-comfort products for its rapid colonisation.
