What is Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus?

Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus, isolated from the human gut and fermented dairy, is among the most clinically studied lactic acid bacteria in the world. The GG strain within the species — the first lactobacillus to be patented, in 1989 — is the emblematic organism of probiotic research; more than three decades of literature underpin the scientific confidence in this species.

Resistance to gastric acid and bile, adhesion to the intestinal epithelium and biofilm-forming capacity are its hallmark traits. It holds EFSA QPS status.

Applications

Supplements positioned around children's, women's and immune health are the most common use; the depth of literature makes it a strong choice for brands that want claims anchored to scientific references. It is also used as an adjunct culture in fermented dairy and functional foods, and in heat-treated products in its parabiotic form.
